JAUNmarka is an annual tradition of the Art Academy of Latvia, first started more than 20 years ago. It is a type of art fair that provides support and encouragement for new artists; for art connoisseurs, however, it is a chance to be amongst the first to discover new talents and trends in arts and design.
The Art Academy of Latvia student art exhibition traditionally opens its doors to the public in the middle of December; it has become part of the Academy’s identity. The exhibition is a unique event, biggest of its kind in Latvia and the Baltics, that allows its visitors to not just view, but also purchase the works of both up-and-coming and well-established new artists. It is an excellent opportunity to get to know the Art Academy of Latvia and its study processes, as well as meet the new artists face-to-face at a time when they are possibly on their way to grand galleries and international exhibitions.
Each year JAUNmarka presents the creative works of hundreds of AAL students, spanning over countless art mediums: from classical painting to experimental objects, jewellery, ceramics, installations, and even multimedia artworks. All these are available for purchase to visitors – a chance to bring enjoyment into your life and to support new artists at the same time.
This nearly month-long event – JAUNmarka – is a sort of summary of everything that has been created in the Academy during the study year. More than 400 students bring out the fruits of their creative labour, giving visitors an opportunity to view and purchase them. JAUNmarka represents all departments of the Art Academy.
Specially curated art selections will be made by well-known names in the field, as well as professional art curators. JAUNmarka will also be complemented by lively conversation with the authors themselves – the students of the Art Academy of Latvia.
